Tag Gateway Changes the Host, Not the Payload

Tag gateway reached general availability on Google Cloud and Amazon CloudFront in June. It moves the request to a first-party host and leaves the contents of that request exactly as the browser built them – which is the whole difference from server-side tagging.

The Same File, Two IDs

Google is merging the Google tag and Tag Manager: containers gain destinations, new snippets drop the config command, and a release note from 9 July 2026 makes the loading ID decide what the container may do. The upgrade is optional; the ID is not.
